do you like me, y/n?
i think i finally figured out what trinity was going to say to neo at the phone booth before they go back to the ship in the matrix. obviously the oracle told her that she would fall in love with neo, which she already had fallen by then. earlier when cypher asks her if she believes morpheus’s BS when he is killing everyone he just wants a “simple yes or no” and she says yes. so she knows she loves him and that part of the oracle’s prophecy came true for her. then at the phone booth she says “everything the oracle told me has come true. everything but this…” she can’t be referring to her falling in love with the One because clearly that happened. so what i think Trinity was leading up to was “the oracle told me that you would fall in love with ME, too. so do you..? do you love me? do you think i’m hot?” i mean, it’s clear in the movie in hindsight because it’s what she says to his plugged-in unconscious body back on the ship. but the way she says it there is so not something she would have said to his face! so i finally figured out that she would have been wondering if he felt love or not since he was still just being polite and gentlemanly to her at that point (“you first,” etc.) but not hitting on her or anything. the phone booth was not a milieu romantic enough for the soliloquy she busts out on the Nebuchadnezzar (which apparently means “a very large wine bottle” wtf). so therefore i think she might have been leading up to a more or less innocent (and very out of character) question along the lines of “do you like me, y/n?” LOL. Matrix best movie, do not watch the sequels.
P.S. rumor is that the character Switch was originally written to be trans like the Wachowskis, a man whose residual self-image inside the matrix is a woman. Hence the name I guess!
