spoleto, no piccolo
i’m in charleston, SC this week with mash deez, greg, and michelle’s dancers. michelle’s company, Dorrance Dance, is performing at the spoleto arts festival and we are part of the live band that is providing the music. this gig is a welcome break from writing. i might go in for one more round of songwriting after this week. so far the identifiable (to me) influences that have come out in the new keepers are: andre 3000, paramore, elvis costello/squeeze/the knack/weezer/power pop, and nirvana/blur. there’s also bits of two door cinema club and one direction/poppy pop to my ear. and quincy jones/MJ. but for now we are doing mash’s gig. michelle is rhythms, rhythms, rhythms. i used to tap dance with her for years. above is a short clip of rehearsal at the meminger theatre.
and here is my most recent rhythmic statement/opus, a reinterpretation of one of my favorite autechre songs. i uploaded this remix with the guitars removed in order to show the drums in all their timbral glory.
